Biking on Mallorca
by Per Löwdin, tour started June 2004

Early June 2004 we got a week free and booked a trip to Mallorca. We had been in Alcudia, on North Mallorca, twice, riding MTB and felt that we had rather exhausted the fun of the gnarly trails around Lluc, Binifaldo, Massanella, and other trails accessible from Alcudia, so we bet on bringing our road bikes and staying in South Mallorca, to see some new land.

We winded up in Illetas, a quiet but nevertheless touristic place straddling the cliffs between Palma Nova and Palma. We had a small appartement in the Illetas Club Playa.

The riding was excellent, though we found the traffic dense and dangerous. For most rides we would have to spend an hour before we were on a road in open country. Going east of Palma was not much fun as routes were poorly marked, traffic congested, with plenty of diverts and circuitous one-way streets, through one beach resort after another.

Trails

Mountainbiking in California
by Per Löwdin, tour started July 2004, submitted 21 February 2006

In 2004 for we bet on biking in California, to search for some of the best singletrack, in places such as Annadel, Downieville, Truckee, Lake Tahoe and Monterey. Essentially, we did the same thing as the previous summer, when we cycled in Colorado, but in a different part of the United States.

Colorado Singletrack
by Per Löwdin, tour started July 2003, submitted 21 February 2006

2003 we biked in Colorado. The idea was to ride the famous Colorado singletrack, biking between the places with singletrack, to see whether the Colorado singletrack is the best in the world. The question remains unanswered as we have zillions of miles of singletrack to try yet. However, one thing is clear, Colorado singletrack is fantastic. Colorado has some of the best trails in the world.

In Search of Singletrack in the Alps
by Per Löwdin, tour started 2000

We flew from Stockholm to Geneva. Then we biked along the southern shore of Lac Leman, crossed Pass des Morgines, headed up the Rhone valley, and made a side trip to Zermatt. Then, we continued to Brigg, Davos, St Moritz, Livigno, Canazei, and Cortina. From Cortina we headed south to Lago di Garda. Reaching the Plains of Po approaching Milan we spontaneously decided to take a train to San Reno, and continue from there to Monaco, Nice and up through the mountains to Chamonix, ultimately heading back to Geneva for our return flight to Sweden. There are plenty of excellent reports on cycling along these roads [...] and we feel we have little to contribute. Instead these pages are focused on the possibilities of single track riding.
