by Iris Mueck, tour started September 2018, submitted 25 September 2018

A wonderful repeat tour among friends. In sunny weather conditions. As there is no time to stall.

At Grado we spent onw rest day with a swim at the Adriatic sea. Our return way has been different: To Udine by bicycle, further by train to Pontebba and then Passo Pramollo (Nassfeld) Riding down the bike trail "R3" (Gailtalradweg) down to Arnoldstein, whereas we caught the train.

Big Picture for Little Money
by Igor Kovse, tour started July 2017, submitted 20 April 2018

The best proof that there is no such thing as a "Master plan" in Nature is human evolution. When man rose to his feet and with a disproportionately large head significantly increased his center of gravity, the likelihood of falls and hip fractures increased by few tens of times. The evolution thus physically handicapped humans. Even on the intellectual side man did not perform as brilliantly as he likes to think. They don't say in vain that ten Doctors of Science can not answer the question of one chimpanzee. These are the fundamental issues that accompany me recently, when everyday human speech often seems a mere sound pollution to me. Like the noise of motorized leaf-blowers. That is why I had to leave my country this summer again, to keep my mind in a reasonably healthy condition. Just a small change was needed: the cycling journey to the Wild East, to Romania and Bulgaria.

Dead Sea Tour
by Iris Mueck, tour started March 2017, submitted 7 March 2018

A sudden decision to fulfill a long lasting dream

Escape from freezing Austrian Winter and drift like a thrift wood in waters of dead Sea. I found an little private room at Gil's Rooms at Newe Zohar. Located at the Southern end of the Dead Sea. You may find this place on Google maps. Samy, the owner has been very cooperative and helpful. He organized a shuttle from Tel Aviv Ben Gurion airport to Newe Zohar and back. Of course, there is a bicycle needed.

I have taken my Brompton folding bike with me. Without, I would have been lost. Roads are good and not always flat. The landscape is beautiful. Riding in this depression of about 400 meters below Adriatic Sea level makes just fun. The area of Newe Zohar is save. Too far away from typical political quarrels in this part of the world. The Eastern side of Dead Sea is Jordan. The do the same: offering a high number of resort hotels to tourists. This ensures piece. All the hotel are occupied by Russian tourists. Russian language is the second language in that area. It always helped to start talks with "strastwuitje". My room has been somehow in the middle of nowhere.

You should know, that Newe Zohar does not have a restaurant or a market. This is a place to relax. Made for Individualists like me. I am not unhappy as I was forced to pedal at least five kilometers in order to get a breakfast and shop daily needs. The hotel Lot coupon ensures an free entrance to the pool and beach.

The Elements - Cycling around Iceland
by Erik Nomden, tour started August 2017, submitted 5 October 2017
language: en, nl

This time a tour around Iceland is on my program, the land that looks like a divine geological experiment. The land where you actually see how the landscape is molded by the elements. Earth, water, fire and air: the elements are represented here in their most extreme manifestations. The earth that is literally torn apart by the divisive forces from the depths of the earth, the earth that is mostly bare and often more or less devoid of vegetation by the arctic temperatures and the barren climate or is completely covered by snow and ice. Water, that in falls from the sky in large quantities, flows to the ocean in majestic rivers, tumbles down in dramatic waterfalls or squits into the air as geysers. Fire bubbles continuously under the surface, but can burst into the sky at all times by one of the many volcanoes. Air is the element that I am confronted with most frequently as a cyclist, as the wind is raging over the mountains and plains of the fascinating island.

Thaya circle tour - Thayarunde
by Iris Mueck, tour started September 2017, submitted 28 September 2017

A very sunny and stable fall weather made us decide to do this tour The trail is only 111 kilometers. The interesting part is that one rides on former railroad tracks. The are in perfect condition (asphalt) and very good marked (except at Waidhofen an der Thaya). I have scanned in the road map to provide interested bicyclists sufficient information.

We just spent one day. Reason: Easy to Czech per train form Vienna and the, sorry to say, the Czech part of this trail is not interesting, nor have infrastructure, we expect. On the most Northern part of the trail, we have been riding the "Iron Curtain Trail". not really interesting, just a good sounding name and steep climbs. Most interesting the ride to Waidhofen an der Thaya (route South) and up to Waldkirchen and on the return the city of Raabs an der Thaya. We have been riding the tour clockwise, starting at Göpfritz an der Wild.

If you need more information please call the tourist-information at Zwettl / Lower Austria (phone +43 2822 54109) They will send you the map and a leaflet with sightseeing information and list of accommodations. hope you enjoy the picture report. Good luck to our followers.

Wiener Neustädter Kanaltour

This has been the end of our "Paradiesroute" tour. Our train ended at Wiener Neustadt, so it was an easy decission to add this easy going 45 kilomters. Ending in a winery. So good to review a tour with a glass of wine in hand... ;-) Moreover, we arrived "dry" - no rain at all.

By train to Wiener Neustadt. Starting at Wiener Neustadt Hauptbahnhof. Heading for Mödling and further to Brunn am Gebirge. On paved roads to Lichtenwörth, then gravel roads until Leobersdorf. Here the paved roads starts again. We followed the Channel "Wiener Neustädter Kanal" side road. Enjoy the picture report. Good luck to our followers!

Road bike tour Pinggau to Rudersdorf
by Iris Mueck, tour started September 2017, submitted 18 September 2017

First of all: the trail really exists... We thought it was a fake... All what is written in the Internet is not correct!

There are no e-bike charging stations along the route. Only at Rudersdorf we have seen one (and occupied by the local e-bike rental shop). One explanation we heard whilst our tour: the route is "young" and not everything is established...

Road bike tour Lindau - Berchtesgaden
by Iris Mueck, tour started August 2017, submitted 1 September 2017

The bicycle trail "Königsseeradweg" is very good marked. Again: expect many, many gravel roads. Expect Germany's best scenic Southern landscape (Allgäu - Bavaria). At the area Füssen / Schwangau it is very busy. Heavy traffic, too many tourists from all over the world. We have been calling at least 10 times to find a proper accommodation.

Assuming you do it without an e-bike, this tour is only for trained and experienced bicyclists, with good equipment. I have been riding with a triple gear in front and the rear sproket has been 28 teeth (should be 30!).

Good luck to our followers.

Mur Radweg Tour
by Iris Mueck, tour started July 2017, submitted 6 July 2017

There is no time to stall. we fade away too young, so much left ondone... Reason of the tour: I am still working on my white spots of my bicycling career... ;-)

Whenever you check the Internet you may read: "this tour is easy, as always flat, roads are paved all the way through, for familes, etc." Well, the tour comprises at least hundred poisoned stiffer rises (in German language "giftige Anstiege"). Most of them just 500 yards long, but... energy consuming.

we started a Tamsweg. Flat. Just before Murau the first gravel roads on forest roads (but compacted gravel, that's the good thing). And here we had our first stiffer rises... And they never ended. Just before Graz the last one...

Bogota to Quito
by Igor Kovse, tour started December 2016, submitted 10 March 2017

The need to travel ended definitely 300 years ago. At that time Gulliver in his four epic trips found everything that was still unexplored on Earth.: the islands of Liliput and Blefasku with dwarf inhabitants involved in endless wars over hard-boiled eggs, the kingdom of giants Brobdingneg, the chaotic country Balnibarbi with its lofty rulers on the floating island of Laputa and finally, the land of horses Huihnhnm's with their primitive human-like servants Yahoo's. If there is a truth in the saying that the real journey is the one from which you return changed, then the last Gulliver's journey was a hit in the black center. Literally in black, because after his return from a year's stay at honorable Huihnhnms he became pessimistic, he could not accept the coexistence with his English compatriots in which he saw only a poor cosmetic lifting of barbaric Yahoos. If you too suffer from Gulliver's syndrome, maybe from some journey or maybe you caught it at home while observing the world around you, then I have a therapy that will definitely improve your situation: go to South America.

The idea was to move in the Balkan land and reach some places symbol of a tragedy that we had experienced only through the media in the '90s.

Erzurum to Yerevan
by Igor Kovse, tour started July 2016, submitted 30 December 2016

Once in a lifetime everyone returns to the basics. For example, by asking oneself how it all began? The Big Bang theory says it all started from the singularity and in less than a second everything we know today was created, including such complex organisms as, e.g. the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology. Some people however doubt about it and, missing probably the spiritual component of the problem, resort to the age-old interpretation of the Bible. There the creator fixed everything in six days. But - surprise, surprise - just a few centuries later, the creator changes his mind and sends the Flood over his creation. They say that to err is human, but it is not really fitting for the creator. The thing was ripe for a thorough investigation, so I went along the path of Noah - to the research path in the Caucasus.

Cap Corse by e-bike
by Iris Mueck, tour started October 2014, submitted 28 October 2016

Our sail trip started at San Vincente (Italy) and we headed to Elba. A run into thunderstorm on the way to Bastia (Corse) and, believe it or not, we have been facing winds with 8 Beaufort. Complete wet and out of any power, we reached the Island. The weather forecast for the Island has been absolutely a disaster, what makes us change our tour.

We decided to sail North the next days in order to reach the Italian coast - Cinque Terre and Bocca di Magra. On the way North, the next city has been Macenaggio. To our surprise right at the harbor, there was a tourist information with charged e-bikes, waiting for us. Heide and me, we have taken the chance to ride Cap Corse. The rent was only EURO 10,- per 4 hours. Easy to ride over the mountain and look down to Cap Corse, whilst Ralph took care on our boat. The distance one-way is round 15 kilometers...
