Danube Bike Path - A bike tour to all the family
by Augusto Lemos, tour started 2008, submitted 30 June 2011
language: pt

Danube river is 2.900 km length, it crosses eight countries and it flows into Black sea. The bike path that follows the river is Europe's most famous and most loved bike trip! Along the way there's a unique natural, cultural and historical richness. Furthermore, the bike path has a lot of infrastructures designed for cyclists and you can chose between north or south bank of the river.

Probably, there aren't many places in the world where travel by bike can be so pleasant and so easy! And where you can enjoy so much the landscape and places to visit.

This trip which I describe was done between Passau (in Germany) and Bratislava, via Vienna.

At the Langada Pass
Lake Constance & Silvretta
by Iris Mueck, tour started June 2011, submitted 16 June 2011

We have missed that tour (until now). Lake Constance in combination with the Silvretta climb from the Montafon valley. So, we did it.

The lake Constance round trip is a very busy area for bicyclists. Better NOT to go on the vacation period. You will find all kind of sport activities (and nervous car drivers, particular the professional drivers, like bus and taxi cabs). But families with children can cause some more unexpected stop. Expect the unexpected!

Silvretta looks like a total different world. Not so many bicyclists (too steep & too long). But a very good and rather new bike path from Feldkirch to Bludenz, and the very standard‚ one from Bludenz up to Gaschurn.

We have chosen the Silvrettta as a sort of training in order to check our shape for the planned Sella Ronda tour and the Stilfser Joch tour. Enjoy the pictures on our report. Good luck to all the followers!

4 Months Cycling Japan
by Sven Schirmer, tour started 2009, submitted 29 May 2011

Cycling Japan was my first journey on a bicycle. Outside the big cities, Japan is indeed a great country to cycle on low budget with heaps of free camping opportunities, great and affordable food and no absolutely tourist scam. The helpful and kind Japanese contributed so much to my experience. A few word of Japanese do make a difference.

From Amsterdam to Brugges
Under the sea level, by bicycle

This was a travel I made in 2008, from Amsterdam to Brugges. This trip was perfect to understand how Holland manages space to give priority for bicycles. We also could count the windmills that were appearing on the way, and fell small near the huge dykes. And, finally, we felt (on the legs) that Holland is really flat.

Cycling the Danube from Passau to Vienna
by Suzanne Gibson, tour started April 2011, submitted 9 May 2011

The first tour of the season - and it was something special. Janos and I decided to get e-bikes. Read my journal to see how we felt about admitting to the limitations our age is imposing and what touring is like with a little help. We chose the choicest morsel of the Danube for our maiden voyage and were lucky with the weather.

Skyline Drive & Blue Ridge Parkway Bicycle Tour
by Iris Mueck, tour started April 2011, submitted 5 May 2011

Virgina is worth a bicycle ride. On the rolling hills some may get exercised. The tour comprises the Skyline Drive (elevated round 3.000 ft/1.000 meters) and the Blue Ridge Parkway (elevations in Virginia up to 3.500 ft/1.200 meters). Higher elevated in North Carolina. A continuous climb and decent sucks a bicyclist off power. I have underestimated the Parkway. At this time of the year, the weather can be cold and wet. Some rest areas are closed. A lone ride... But very busy from May on. See more details in my report. Good luck to all the followers!

MTB tour of the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains
by I.P., tour started August 2011, submitted 30 April 2011

A mountain bike ride along and across the Ukrainian part of the Carpathian Mountains from the Ukraine-Poland border to the Ukraine-Romania border. The route is approximately 500 km long. It is by no means an ''extreme'' tour (most probably it can be described as ''moderately challenging''). The main purpose of this ride is to map out and document a through-trail that uses forest roads, jeep roads, local dirt roads, and low-traffic local roads where other options are not available.

Jerry's Alps Tour 2010
by Jerry Nilson, tour started 2010, submitted 17 April 2011

After yet another accident (hit by a car on the downhill and hospitalised with 5 ribs broken at many places, whole in one lung, head concussion, etc.), I had one training ride in two months before leaving for this year's Alps Tour. The tour was, however, very successful and I had a record number of height metres in one day (8272m) on the 277 km ride of the Monte Grappa Challenge. The weather was lovely throughout even if a bit too hot many times. Great places were visited, but I had problems with photos and then dropped my camera on the ground and only had iPhone photos for the second half.

Rediscovering the Portuguese Coast
by Augusto Lemos, tour started 2007, submitted 31 March 2011
language: pt

Trip made in 2007 from Oporto to Lagos: 663 kms cycling and discovering the Portuguese coast.

We have a fantastic climate, beautiful landscapes, tasty meals... If the Portuguese coast was provided with a bike path in its totality, it could become one of the best cycle-tourist itineraries of summer.

Anyway, I promise you: if you try it, you‚ll want to repeat it!

ciclosinfonia nella terra di A. Salieri
by Fernando Da Re, tour started April 2011, submitted 28 March 2011
language: it

Seconda parte.

BicycleTOURing in the Pyrenées II. (France, Spain)
by Györgyi Gábor, tour started July 2010, submitted 9 March 2011
language: en, hu

In 2010 my bicycletour went back to the Pyrenées to collect another paved roads going above 2000 m, to have all of them. By its start I cycled up to Mont Ventoux on its four different ascents in the same day to have the Galerien version of the Club des Cinglés du Mont Ventoux.

I saw 3 times the Tour de France: they were great feelings, unforgettable memories. I climbed legendary Tour de France climbs, like Col de Peyresourde, Aspin, Luz Ardiden, Aubisque, Pla d’Adet, Col d’Azet, etc. In Spain I was amazed by the huge rockwalls of the Ordesa canyon and the region of that and found wonderful (and one of the most beautiful roads) the East side of the Coll de Fanlo. In Spain with other ones I visited Cerler, Boi Taüll, a hardly known, but wonderful road to Presa L’lauset, then in Andorra 3 roads: one of them the legendary and nice Arcalis. I visited calm ascents like the idyllic valley of Lac Bouillouses and valley of Puigmal. After climbing Vallter I finished my tour in Barcelona.

The bicycletour was totally 2368 kms + 42996 m heightdifference.

Ciclosinfonia nella terra di Antoni Salieri
by Fernando Da Re, tour started October 2010, submitted 24 February 2011
language: it
